What is Preschool screening?
Early Childhood Developmental Screening is a check of a child’s development, vision and hearing, growth, health history and immunizations. Screening takes approximately 20 minutes, and a parent or legal guardian stays with the child during the screening process. Screening takes place in the Preschool classroom of Hinckley Elementary and is free.
Who needs to be screened?
All children living in Hinckley School district. The state of Minnesota requires that all children be screened before they enter kindergarten.
Why is screening important?
Screening helps identify children who may benefit from early childhood services before they enter school and connects them with the appropriate resources and programs. If your child has already been screened, he/she does not need to be screened again. At the conclusion of the screening, the parent/legal guardian will be given a summary of the screening results and have the opportunity to discuss concerns they may have about their child’s development or circumstances that could affect their child’s learning.
Screening is by appointment only.
